There needs to be 12 Professional teams within NSW/ACT alone. Newcastle Jets (Self explanatory) Central Coast Mariners (A name change to something a bit more appealing than Mariners would be nice) North Harbour (Representing Manly-Warringah, Northern Suburbs and Gladesville Hornsby. Home games to be shared between North Sydney Oval and Brookvale Oval) Sydney FC (Representing Eastern Suburbs/South Sydney) St George - Sutherland (Self explanatory, home games shared between Shark Park and Oki Jubilee) South Coast (Self explanatory, home games at WIN Stadium Wollongong) South West Sydney (Representing the Liverpool to Macarthur to Camden regions, home games at Campbelltown Stadium) West Sydney Wanderers (Representing the West Sydney strong hold, Fairfield, Edensor Park, Bonnyrigg, Mounties etc. Home games to be played at the new Parramatta Stadium) Greater West/North West Sydney (Representing Parramatta to Hills Districts to Blacktown to Nepean/Blue Mountains. Home games to be played at the new Parramatta Stadium, possibility of some home games to be played at Penrith Stadium) Canterbury - Bankstown (Self explanatory, home games to be played at Belmore Oval) Inner West/West City (Self explanatory, home games to be played at Leichhardt Oval) Canberra (Self Explanatory) well put, I’m happy with that, and really don’t care if only 500-100 people watch, more professional sports jobs and player pathway, we are somehow stuck with NRL/AFL business model, doesn’t work in this global game

Are you setting up franchises for Gloria Jeans ? Pick football teams based on footballing results, and setup franchises according to business best practices. Business and accounting decisions don't guarantee footballing success. Tell that to all the power houses in world football...

Providing the teams done their part to connect with their local area and do all they can to win over the support of junior/youth clubs within their region, I have no doubt it could work well.

vicious. missed a few haven't you. Another problem, money ? What area of Sydney would not be represented? Money is always an issue, it’s even an issue with some of the current A-League clubs. I think there would be s lot of interest in people wanting to submit their business proposals for any of the teams I have suggested.

Alternatively, each major city has their own PL1 Competition which in effect is the second tier in this country. Clubs who compete in the top tier in their state should ideally have A League aspirations if the opportunity presented itself. The solution could be to increase the A League to 16 teams with 3 teams relegated and promoted each season.
In order the gain promotion, we could have a national playoff series which includes:
Top 2 teams from NSW (Canberra to play in NSW NPL1 along with Newcastle Jets if they were ever relegated) Top 2 teams from Victoria Top team only from Qld, SA, WA, Tas & NZ.
This would mean each team plays 8 games at the conclusion of their season, with the top 3 teams promoted to the A League for the upcoming season. Obviously the season as it stands would need to finish much earlier to allow the promoted clubs time to get themselves ready for the upcoming A League season, I would suggest that all seniors PL1 competitions start in early January if not earlier to allow this to happen. This would create a clear pathway to the A League for every serious club, excel in your own top tier state competition, finish top 3 in the national playoff series and you are in the A League.

So we can lengthen the careers of ageing footballers....Matt Simon could be playing in his 40s.

I look forward to a team from just about any NPL around the country under that system finding the multi-million dollar fee that the current applicants are likely to stump up. That's a lot of sausage sizzles...

I think if you look hard enough, there are plenty of young up and coming players capable of making more of an impact in the A League than ageing players such as Matt Simon given a chance.
The serious clubs could surely come up with a business plan to be financially viable if they were promoted to the A League, South Melbourne, Wollongong Wolves are a prime example.

Unfortunately television rights payments will reduce, meaning all teams in the League take a haircut, if an NPL club with a few hundred members and representing Leichardt (for example) get promoted.
