I agree with jabrack too. Once again TDL shows his total lack of understanding as to what is required of a coach during Nationals week. Coaches only care about winning, I've never met a happy loser. Most Thunder teams are expected to win by parents, players and FNSW. Some Thunder teams could win with no Coach present... No coach present? That would probably assist with player development. Training is for coaches, games for players.

Older teams yes, they probably could. 18 and under girls teams could be a huge problem. So many egos and so many parents who think they know what is best for their daughters. But then again, some coaches like the parents to stroke their egos. So maybe a lack of coach would be a good thing.

Jack Gibson once said: "A good coach cannot win without good players, but a poor coach can lose with good players"... Have to agree with that. Sometimes though when it looks as though the whole world is conspiring against a team, that team steps up and proves they and their coach work together.

Actually I think coaching a Thunder team is hard. Your expected to win and you often have to deal with the egos of the superstars (and their parents). The Thunder coach has to work hard to get the players to play the way he want. On the other hand the Lightning team may or may not be the best players, but everyone is 200% committed to doing whatever is needed from the coach to beat Thunder. In my sons age group Lightning has beaten Thunder 3 out of the past 5 years.

Coaching at this tournament has a lot more to do with keeping the player's minds on the job. Many a thunder team has looked down on their Lightning opponents as being of inferior quality and has fallen victim.

Gee, things have changed over the years. When my kid played, there was no complacency. Everyone gave their best every game. It was a matter of self and team pride.
