Sounds like some interesting selections from the new coaching staff. - Marconi reduced to 2 players (from 4) - couple of players based oseas (previously reluctant to do so) - APIA player from u14s selected (how was he not playing SFC/ WSW this year? Guess why APIA 14s are way out in front?) - just 2 WSW players
How many new faces from Vidmars recent trip oseas? Why?

I think the easy answer is that they might have stuffed up the first time, but it's a new coach and the net was cast a bit wider.

I do wonder on the timing for some of this stuff, not that state titles will necessarily provide lots of candidates, but why wouldn't you have those earlier in the year, with FC and Wanderers participating so that a proper NSW team (or two) can be picked and actually use game situations with something hinging on the outcome to help identify boys for NSW. If each state does that then surely there will be a bit more rigour around the process than relying on recommendations and nods + winks.
Alternately, if the belief is that the best here are with A League teams, surely it can't be too hard to organise a week early in the year where a proper tournament is organised. I do find it hard to believe (my Western Australian bias is about to show) that NSW is that superior in this age group compared to the rest of the country.

Got to watch a few of the NSW contingent for the recently selected team play in the 18s PL Grand Final today and did feel a little underwhelmed. I know some of them have had very good seasons, but given the quality of the opposition they are about to face, I don't feel super confident.

Scores? 1-0 to Sydney FC, was a very well taken goal after nice lead up play. Rockdale did have chances and whilst FC did look dangerous at times, they were really (to my uneducated eyes) relying on the counter and did get players behind the ball. Their best moments came from wide positions, they seem reluctant to try and go through the middle. I guess it's pragmatic to do so, but I can't imagine how an 8 or a 10 properly develops in that environment.

Seems to be a Sydney FC tactic the 20's played in similar fashion to the 18's - trying to catch Sutho down the flanks at every opportunity, to be fair they did however their finishing let them down quite a bit & on balance they should have got the result.Fair play to Sutho however who made it difficult for SFC & their persistence got them the result.

Looks like all 3 goals scored against the same defender - big boy with limited agility. The model u16 YPL player?
