Where on earth did the best Australian u16 wide defender learn to deliberately position himself on the outside of the attacker when defending...as noted several times in the video?? Just one example of a much bigger problem... Is the poor lad a natural defender ?, is that is playing position ?. Or is he a midfielder being asked to fill in ?. Some coaches like picking 9 midfielders and moving them around . Back to P22 days ... I suspect the weighting is geared towards players technique on the ball.....the approach used in most training sessions is more suited to pass & move midfielders and the most obvious deficiencies in our football at all levels is our inability to score goals and to defend!

I believe that the philosophy ,the culture basically the whole lot has to change. Selectors/coach every thing. The connection between Westfield Sports and the Joeys as well. HAS TO STOP... If we want to get better... 100% Nemesis, totally agree, and maybe idiotic parents should stop throwing money at these selectors.

If we want to get better... I get sick of hearing WSW and Sydney FC, there are better coaches and players at the Big Old Clubs, when I see non high level playing coaches compared to ex players, with true knowledge of what it takes to win! Thats right win! Not play nice? We have bred soft dumb players and some are getting a free ride because of who they play for, and past reputations, Need to go back to the old days and pick on who is truly on form! These people that are coaching A League academys?, they should be threatened, because there is a big movement towards getting under a good coaching team (despite the clubs name, and not just a nice tracksuit. Want the Joey's to improve? look outside the square, earn your money and broaden the search!once you find them, flog them and teach them to win. That's a start!

Sadly we are a third world football nation cannot expect more Are we that bad? The kids come together for 2 x weeks, need more time together I agree! But let's face our senior team dont exactly play beautiful football, their advantage is they are battle hardened, gave a will to fight and do whatever it takes to win. The system has let the kids down, guaranteed 60% game time, teach them to fight and compete and we will improve.

If the above is the case? In most European countries, you compete against 2 or 3 kids per position, please select kids as centre backs that actually play centre back. Please learn from the experience and stop looking in the same places all the time because you'll find the same players and the get the same results.

If the player had a natural talent for the game does he really have to be told to stand goal side ? That's pretty basic isn't it no matter what position he plays. Really any field player in a game at that level should be good enough to play in any position that is required and not continually make the same errors.
Don't tell me we haven't got better quality in this country. We excel in every other code why not football ?

Looks like all 3 goals scored against the same defender - big boy with limited agility. The model u16 YPL player? The model A-League defender? Picked for the size of body?, the best defender in the world, was a short womble! But intelligent! CANNAVARO was his name

I do wonder on the timing for some of this stuff, not that state titles will necessarily provide lots of candidates, but why wouldn't you have those earlier in the year, with FC and Wanderers participating so that a proper NSW team (or two) can be picked and actually use game situations with something hinging on the outcome to help identify boys for NSW. If each state does that then surely there will be a bit more rigour around the process than relying on recommendations and nods + winks. Alternately, if the belief is that the best here are with A League teams, surely it can't be too hard to organise a week early in the year where a proper tournament is organised. I do find it hard to believe (my Western Australian bias is about to show) that NSW is that superior in this age group compared to the rest of the country. State titles agreed, but why should WSW and Sydney FC, play as a group! Level playing field needs to be maintained especially now its promotion and relegation.

No on all accounts....it aint rocket science but its difficult to break down the obsession with short passing games.

CANNAVARO was his name If Cannavaro was Australian, by the age of 14 he would of been told by many specialist coaches that he was toooo small.. The same ones running our big name academies . Would of represented Australia in rugby league

Better result today, Iraq 1 Australia 2 Very good result to be honest! More like what you'd expect from our national team? So is the first game down to aclimatising? Or lack of time together? Maybe the FFA needs to get the kids together more? But that would be spending money.
