Isn't that the same as kids at the sports schools getting in to wsw and syd fc because of their affiliation? same as kids who were at fnsw institute, failure to progress the kids in these programs shows a program that has failed, as such selection is almost guaranteed. I'm told only one kid from the undefeated u14 met nth state titles team offered a trial (not selection) for state team. Yet FNSW tell us it is an 'essential' pathway. Yes, and that one kid goes to Westfield sports. Not saying he didn't deserve the opportunity to trial but only one? I'm wondering if the team was well and truly decided before the first game of titles even kicked off. That's football in Oz it seems. I thought 5 or 6 names were put forward to trial?

Three years ago coached the Sydney South U12 squad at Wagga...it contained three players in the then Premier League competition. 31 players turned up for trials including 'park' footballers - who were ok.
My point is, are the 'best' players attending the State Titles? Are ST squads determined by who coaches the squad? That is, are coaches of clubs not involved holding their players back from attending from fear of them being 'scouted' for other clubs?
For mine, ST's are an expense and an uneccessary work load for junior and youth players. The money spent sending so called FNSW Scouts to these tournaments would be better spent holding a training camp to act as a sieve for TiD...
The above team finished 4th...

Just another money making scheme for fnsw. No intention whatsoever to pick any kids.

Aside from all this, the tournament was great and the boys who participated really enjoyed it, as did the parents and coaches.

And thats the point, it may have had its roots in State team selection but now its really about kids enjoying their football in a different (more competitive) environment. I dont believe anyone participates in it these days to make the state team.... And of course no one gets forced to participate!!

Yes it was a great week and the kids did enjoy playing at a high level, but expectations were also there.

State titles in schools are utilised to select a state team. Perhaps their is an expectation that FNSW are undertaking these Championships for the same reason. If there is an illusion that this is the case, and especially if it it is not, then the governing body should inform the punters that no state team will be selected and that the Championships are not being used for TiD...

Maybe they should....but if no players from WSW and SFC attend the State Titles you'd be a tad naive thinking the state team is picked from there.

Agree Tarzan but we are dealing with parents that are 'new' to this and if they see State Titles then they may assume State Team...

When you've got selectors there wit pen and papers in their hands what are they doing playing noughts and crosses? The best kids don't all play for Wsw and Syd fc.

All Club TD's ( for U13s/U14s) were asked to submit players for consideration to State Team Trials by 12pm yesterday to FNSW Coaches. So its not just what was on display at State Titles only part there of , Yes State Coaches were watching most of the games. Some Club Coaches were also requested to submit Video footage of players .. so yes they are looking.

Thanks iceman. That's interesting. Makes for sense too, similar to the FNSWI trials. Are you aware of any of your MD boys already invited to trial from FNSW from performance at state titles?

Several players were identified prior to State Titles based on their Club performances,it was not only state titles where they are noticed. Many players did not even trial for State Title Teams hence why many Coaches were at Club games.
