Well after another failed campaign using a mixture of local and overseas players we have another failed Olympic qualification attempt. Can Fozzy n Vidmar n Okon explain how we are getting better? Oh wait a minute we beat Vietnam 2-0 and we lost to them last time. Yep progress. Tarzan your thoughts on this wonderful system you love.

Did we play it from the back or Olyroos have enjoyed some good spells of possession LOL
Massive failure if you consider the institutes such as NSWI and AIS developed most of these players and I have to say the coaches as well
Can't blame anybody else
Not good enough because deep down nobody really cares as long as certain people have jobs

They are coached by ex players that were themselves a product of an outdated system. Most players were likely part of a very small pool of players (wrongly) identified at a very young age as being superstars and taught that football is about running, tackling hard and belting the ball up the opponents end ( sounds painful). On this basis it's not that surprising really.....and nothing to do with the current development system.....u23s?? Glad you were thinking of me though....

Disagree this is the first age group that Han Berger reduced the age intake for ais. Antonis, amini, hoole, pain, mclaren etc have all Been part of the FFA new cirriculum development model.

How long ago was that? 5 years? At their age they were exposed to a possession based philosophy....that's all. These guys had their base well and truly "formed" by then. Two or three of them are very good players. Unfortunately that's not enough good players to win a place in the Olympics.

Unfortunately you sadly mistaken, of the players you see that have technical ability they are getting it elsewhere and playing in the system. And if any good by 16 will leave Australia to have a crack overseas. And if they make it won't play for the country they were born in as they were never recognized. dyslexics untie

Not even those in charge of our programs would suggest anything different.

But they do believe that, otherwise they would pick players playing in Spain,Italy,France,Croatia, and Serbia. But they don't do they. They pick players that have gone through the system because not to would mean admitting failure.

They even go a step further on pass on these same identified players to the next oz youth coach to further vindicate their original selections. A vicious cycle that steams from a inability to identify talent early or them later admit mistakes. That's way they never chose young players outside the system playing in Europe . BOYS CLUB need protection and they need their cushy jobs

Some of that may well be correct however the bigger issue has been the small pool of players that have trained 3/4 sessions per week since a very young age. That pool has grown substantially in recent years.

Tarzan the pool you are eluding to is bigger but not better. Football evolves constantly but the fundamentals remain the same. We fail on the fundamentals, and the understanding of the game. It doesn't matter what style you play the basics remain and here in Australia we keep putting the horse before the cart. Again from experience in Europe trials are done on basics, once you have passed the basics then they will look at how you play and if your they type of player that they can work with or need. Here we look at can you play and then we hope you get the basics as you move along.
