The strength of the program is it's holistic approach to Football development. That is, by the end of Year 10, the students' will have acquired the following:
1. At least two levels of coaching - one student is undergoing his Coaching Instructor's Licence
2. At least one level of referee's certificate - three students selected to represent Sydney South West as referees at the NSW PSSA Carnival after refereeing at the SSW PSSA Regional Trials.
Also Year 8, 9 and 10 Talented Football Program is an elective so is undertaken within the school timetable.

Furthermore, the student athlete's study the following as part of the course:
* Officiating as a referee * Coaching and the Development process * Administration * Event management * Player management * Media - in front of and behind the interview - being interviewed and being the interviewer (sports journalism) * Sports psychology * Sports medicine fields *Strength and conditioning
This allows for the student athlete many options to pursue a career in football; caters for the player that does not get the opportunity to gain a professional playing contract. This helps keep our kids in the game.

In 2011, it is envisaged that BPHS will offer for the first time, a HSC course for football. Watch this space for more developments on this as negotiations are underway to commence this course that is not offered at this stage in NSW at the HSC school level...

Applications are open to girls and boys. We are looking at expanding and strengthening the girls program in particular.
After planning and being involved in a successful USA Tour in 2000 when I was coaching at Westfields Sports High, Bossley is planning a Girls tour of the USA for December 2011 where we will participate in two college showcases as well as being hosted by a soccer school in Austin, Texas.
Senior Girls and Boys teams play in the ERREA Cup - sports high school competition.
U15 boys are current Bill Turner Cup holders after winning the final in 2009...

And we don't do too bad a job at developing players either for the short time that the program has been running...

Sherlock the info you have provided on the program is very informative and the program is comprehensive! What about the scholastic component being offered to boys and girls who may attend the School. This too should be spoken about as a "holistic" approach IMO!

Absolutely...to summarise Year 7 2010 parents responses to why did you choose BPHS...it was academic performance of the school; the strong uniform code; the discipline of the welfare system. Then the diversity of the football program.
This makes me proud to be at BPHS...with WSHS, football education in schools in the Sydney South West region is looking very healthy.

I've heard there might be other schools running football programs apart from Westfields, Endeavour, Hills Sports and Bossley Park. Can anybody confirm this and, if so, where they are.

Positions still available for girls in Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 for next year's intake for the Talented Football Program...please contact the front office on 9823 1033 or download application form from the Bossley Park High School website (refer above)...
If people would like to come along and 'test drive' the program, then please contact Geoff Stanmore at BPHS to organise when your daughter/son could come along to train with our current Year 7's on a Wednesday or Thursday...
'Trialists' can train with Year 7 and the Year 4,5 & 6 students that are part of the Accelerated Student Athlete Program (ASAP) from the Primary School Program...
Thanks for your time...

Year 3-6 Primary School Program : $125 per 10 week term Year 7 : $660 per 40 week term with 3 sessions per week Year 8 : $50 per 40 week term with 3 sessions per week Year 9 : $200 per 40 week term with 4 sessions per week including strength & conditioning and speed training Year 10 : $200 per 40 week term with 4 sessions per week including strength & conditioning and speed training Year 11 : $200 per 40 week term with 4 sessions per week including strength & conditioning and speed training Year 12 : $200 per 40 week term with 4 sessions per week including strength & conditioning and speed training

Farpost,
What area are you looking at? Be a bit silly living in manly and travelling to Westfields or Bossley or Endeavour...Hills might be attainable...then you need to look at not just the football program but the academic and welfare strengths of the school as well...then if you are also looking for a religious education then the above are probably not going to tick that box for people although Bossley does have a religious education option...

Sherlock,
I'm in area bordering Nepean and Hawkesbury districts. Something within half an hour drive would be ideal. Yes, your comments on academic, welfare and spiritual education are all valid and important for my kids. Kids still in primary school at the moment but passionate about football so starting to check options now.
