Rubbish, stop trying to justify the in justifiable, so many kids lost due to financial constraints, Even the school system is biased when it comes to selections into football programs based on associations with HAL clubs or coaches with private academies Clueless, have you been involved in any of these selection processes??

For a variety of reasons, very few kids here "seriously" (as in are prepared to spend hours every single day of their lives training) want to be professional football players.
Simple solutions like reducing fees, improving pathways and better coaching are icing on the cake...not the cake itself!

That's when the hard work starts, not enough time dedicated to free play and self improvement and the core strength and fitness/athletisicm is way behind other nations at a young age especially Asia! Unfortunately our fractured systems means that sometimes our most technically gifted cannot compete athletically against international opposition.

halftimehero,
our kids have the talent and ability. The system lets them down. Australian football did start to improve and for some reason we have gone backwards in recent years.

Clueless or the truth hits a nerve?
Proof is in the selections and results, that’s my justification

tarzan,
100% correct. I often wonder how many quality children don't get the opportunity because of the costs, time and travelling involved. Parents see the costs and the hours involved and turn to another sport and I do not blame them. It's also hard for any dedicated coach who puts in big hours in training and travel as well. They get paid peanuts for their efforts.

Clueless, are you involved or have any examples, or just making assumptions on a perception you have?

No assumptions it’s based on facts, check the scoreboard to see the facts associated with my comments

Who wants to spend a large part of their life kicking a ball against a fence everyday...then still having a tiny chance of being a pro player. Risk/return equation is not a good one....maybe our kids are smart enough to see this. Anyway lets leave that to the robots up north.

Knowing a few of the boys, there's talent there, no question about it. Our geography doesn't help as you can't get players in an ongoing camp.
Is this the outcome of not having an institute? Not sure how we expect to compete when kids are chosen and come together for a few sessions then head off to a major tournament?
FFA would have been better to just get a Westfields team represent Aus given they're now responsible for the development of our national teams.

Unless they’re playing U18s I’ve not seen any outstanding players in u15s or u16s NSWPL1 - looking at the HAL teams there are zero standouts in these age groups. Sure, some good players but.....

Geez Louise I have been loving me about this for 4+ years and you Tarzan said I had no clue. Maybe I'm unbiased and have the game's best interest at heart. My kids don't play here for that reason. I seen the decline in player adaptability to different situations and there are none!!! All do the same thing as do the coach's. Can't interpret a game while it's in motion. Dyslexic's Untie
