www.smh.com.au/sport/soccer/why-sydney-fc-could-be-the-aleagues-invincibles-20161222-gtgdpg.htmlI know Sydney is doing well, but this was an absolute pearl: "Not that individual aspirations are to be ignored. It's unlikely to happen, of course, but when Ange Postecoglou names his next Socceroos squad in March, up to four Sky Blues players – Alex Wilkinson, Michael Zullo, Josh Brillante and Alex Brosque – could make the cut. Three more, Brandon O'Neill, Rhyan Grant and Ibini, could at least be in the discussion."Sydney may well win it and that of course is an achievement, but really, this season for me will go down as one of the poorest I have watched. I used to quite look forward to watching most games, but now it's quite easy to find an excuse to not do so. I can't see the point in expanding the league if this "product" is going to be diluted further, notwithstanding the opportunities it gives more boys to pursue careers locally.

I would admit some games can be a real chore to watch...but that can be said about most Leagues around the world...the A League is never going to rival the top Leagues in the world for many reasons...however my opinion is that when Sydney, both the Melbourne teams or Brisbane are playing you usually get a bright game to watch...the biggest problem we have with our League is the depth and quality in half the teams...not to sure how this can be addressed as the likes of Newcastle and CC will always struggle for money....I've been a member since season 2 and on a whole I believe the quality has improved each season.....the talk of expansion is a worry but if they stick to expanding within the major cities it could very well work out ok...a lot of dribble has come out of Timmy the wonder boys mouth this year but one thing I totally agree with him on is that under the current system a team reaches the finals finishing 6th out of a 10 team comp and usually on the back of just an ordinary home and away record then has the chance to win the title...either reduce the teams for the finals to say 4 or just make the champions the team which finishes first after the regular season.

And AHoole scores a goal from general play. First one in about 90 games.

That was on your wish list wasn't it? Spooky stuff... T'was. Enjoyed his failed attempt at a stepover ...was embarrassing! Attacking players that have no idea how or when to shoot or how to beat a player in a 1v1 are an interesting breed.

The standard is definitely down which is a bonus for Arnold as SYD FC are cruising along and looking the goods. I cannot believe Adelaide's fall from grace. I wouldn't select any of the Syd Fc players for the national squad, sorry.

Apart from Wilkinson the others have as much chance of attracting Ange's eye as Adelaide's Guardiola does of doing anything that makes him look like more than a PL2 player...imposter!

Andrew Hoole with a screamer! I believe there is footage of him pulling up his shirt after the goal and revealing a white t-shirt emblazoned with, "Take That T-Man!".

I thought it was very amusing to read the articles that were floating around that said. GA was recommended to his previous Dutch club as a 'development ' coach for Junior players. I am not sure there is too much evidence to support that in this year's squad. A Hoole flicked, George Blackwood had more starts last year than minutes this year. Brilllante and O'Niell have both had considerable experience prior to SFC. It will be very interesting to see if the articles from 2-3 days ago announcing the confidence that GA ase in Aaron Calver as a natural replacement for the departed Jurman were just BS. The hamstring tear sustained by Seb Ryall I have no doubt will lead to many sleepless nights. George Blackwood should ask to be loaned out... his management should push very hard for this. The CCM could benefit and so would he and SFC as ultimate owners of his contract. GA's offseason acquisitions, tactics and substitutions are about results and results only.

Watch Syd Fc lose to the Wanderers this week now that GA has commented that his team can go all the way undefeated. That Sydney derby was just horrific to watch - even with the atmosphere. However, not even the diehards were able to keep their enthusiasm up as few players could even master a first touch. And then there was the NYL final - 98 minutes of my life I will never get back.

offdshoulder, Blackwood to go and play for the CCM. Why, is the coaching up there better I think it is believe it or not. Wether it is right or wrong, it is patently obvious that GA does not consider GB to be a option for his team as it stands. Not on the Right ... Holosko / Ibini seem to have that tied up. Not on the Left -Brosque/ Ninkovic (seems to drift out left when not central) / Carney as sub. Not centrally - Bobo / Simon. GB is rarely on the bench this year. Again..actions speak louder than words. It is patently obvious that he has put development of players on the back-burner. I may be wrong but this theory will be further tested this week end. i.e.. Will Aaron Calver be dropped for the returning Ryan Grant. It seems that Jordi Buijs will more than likely play centrally. Which takes us back to my original post topic I don't think there is evidence to suggest that GA is a 'development' coach. The articles circulating prior to GA re-signing were more propaganda than fact. The evidence on last years performances and the evidence on this years performances indicate that development is not something that SFC are particularly good at. The benefits obtained this year have revolved around player recruitment and Brosque being fit. Consider ...Vukovic,Carney, Zullo, Wilkinson, Brillante, Bobo, Buijs, Ibini are all players with International experience / OS First Division experience and are new arrivals to the squad. Add Brosque in the form of his life to Ninkovic / Holosko / Dimitrajovic that is twelve players with International experience / OS First Division experience. Game time and opportunity to grow are of paramount importance for the next generation of players. GA 11 points ahead is in place to start taking the opportunity to splice young players (the next generation). Calver has shown, (with a very small sample size), that he can play and to his credit is flexible in his positioning. He obviously has some areas that need attention and time to address. Will he have to wait another six to twelve months or longer to get that opportunity? Probably (As GA will replace Holosko around sixty minutes , Brosque(Carney) around 75minutes and Bobo(Simon) so Matty Simon can kick/elbow someone and swear / snarl at the ref).
