A Pearl of wisdom:
Free? Who said free? No-one. If you pay reg fee you should EXPECT to be taught how to play. That is the only reason for a football clubs existence. To teach football.
I could have sworn that the main reason for clubs existing was to give the kids a place to be able to play, meet new friends, get away from technology and stay healthy. Teaching them how to play would be secondary to these aims. Club I used to be at had a few players with intelectual problems. Can't say we taught them all to play but we did fulfil the criteria I mentioned.

mary, mary, I give my opinion and you insult me. Long live the Eastern Suburbs. Actually your statement is probably correct and there is plenty to do and see over here compared to over there ( out yonder way ). You must admit choosing between the beach and football whinging parents is an easy choice, for me anyway. Arnie does enough whinging to compensate for you guys......

Clubs ( that is real clubs) have a far greater purpose than simply to teach football.

mary,
It's called karma for the rort you guys pulled in the Asian Championship. Dead set gifted to the WSW. The ref was your best and fairest by a long way. The little fairies at the bottom of the garden were in on it as well.

....and thats not sustainable in Oz at the moment. As the game builds it may/will be. This is what I was heading towards, I am sorry I don't have the answers but maybe one day when football becomes more prominent and recognised (as a national sport in which we can compete globally) then perhaps it will be taught more readily with better structure from the earliest levels, including in schools. This is a pretty rich country as far as living standards and economy go, yet we are ranked 100th in the world. Look at all of the poorer countries that do much better than us, what makes them better than us? It has to be quality coaching from a young age and you cant tell me that kids in Romania (15th !!), Bosnia (29th !!) or Mali (50th) are forced to pay $1500+ a term to learn football. (I realise there is a cost of living factor etc in there) I believe we can only get better, it will take time and we have the junior player base already there, we just need to work with them. I also believe it would be easier to build support if we weren't so mediocre on the world stage, how many more times can Tim save us?

Football ( soccer ) will take over here. It's happened in 95% of the countries and will do the same here.

A Pearl of wisdom: Free? Who said free? No-one. If you pay reg fee you should EXPECT to be taught how to play. That is the only reason for a REPS football clubs existence. To teach football. I could have sworn that the main reason for PARK clubs existing was to give the kids a place to be able to play, meet new friends, get away from technology and stay healthy. Teaching them how to play would be secondary to these aims. I agree with fiik (after I edited his quote) Park clubs teach a little but its more just somewhere to play. They look for the kids that already know how to play, sort them into division 1 teams and maybe they can go out and win some. In my limited dealings with REPS clubs they do the same thing, they look for the kids that already know how to play so they can win. They may yell some instructions from the sidelines but its nothing to do with teaching the kids anything, its all about winning. If the kid can't play they dump them and sign some other kid that can play. Yesterday a Sydney academy had a trial in front of an international scout, so why did the scout ask the better kids how long they had been with the academy? Because the kid that had been tuition paying fees for 6 years gets the scholarship, so is that about teaching the kids or about making lots of money off your hopefuls?

I see another disjointed effort from your girls tonight

The system is still broken after many attempts to fix it, after the Asian Cup there will be some sort of notice to try fix the issue of football development in this country, but contrary what we belive there isn't much trained talent around, like I said before one So called Elite program is not sufficient. SAP (70 kids x 30 clubs in Sydney alone), PL1, PL2, RYL Regional Conference and a variety of Academies...not sure the demand is there to warrant more. Perhaps the issue is more about quality than quantity. Grow the interest in the game, grow the demand and then grow more programs...but for now keep working on the quality of existing programs. I can work out PL1 and PL2 but why this reginal leauge it should be PL3 if it's to be recognised as a pathway.

Call it what you like,75% of the kids in these academies and leagues aren't up to scratch and never will be.
I'd like to know how many good players have left the sport and how many can't progress because of the cost.
