jabrack, did you expect any different? Look at Phoenix their first year in, and look at exactly who is at UTS. Well to be honest yes, it does surprise me a little. I don't know the exact numbers that broke away to UTS, but figured it was a minority? If not then Phoenix must have recruited VERY well to stay in 7th place (just one lower than last year I believe) Either way all credit to UTS coaches and players. ....great job so far. I would have put money on Sutherland being promoted this year, but after just 7 pts against Mt Druitt last weekend, they have a huge mountain to climb.

From what I see, most UTS women were Phoenix were NB. I believe that is still a minority. Individual coaches/players are from phoenix while most of the juniors are new to futsal and have resided from playing in local competition.

UTS are benefitting from a VERY strong pool of players down there at Manly/Warringah. In addition to playing outdoor football for Manly United etc. many players have played futsal for years at places like the Northern Beach Futsal Association comp which although not rep level has given them the bones of futsal. Apart from the U14s boys the rest of the UTS teams seem unstoppable (no I don't have a child at UTS, I am an observer).
And I believe many UTS players have come from Phoenix (hello, 12s girls) as have some coaches - but we all know that.
I can see UTS winning the State League. So will Boomerangs go down to SL and UTS go up to PL?
I agree some of the bottom teams in the SL shouldn't be there. The current bottom B12s team has a GD of -101. Come on... -101!! After seven games! I know that sounds mean but -101 after seven games means the team should not be playing 'Rep' futsal IMO. Sorry boys, just my opinion.

Sorry Ladysmith but I believe you are way off base on UTS 12 Girls. I don't think there any ex-Phoenix girls in the team or even any ex-Phoenix academy girls.

Ok, fair enough. Just repeating what I heard on the fusal circuit from a reputable source. Obviously not right then. Still, it fits in with what some other forumites have said in previous posts. They must all be wrong too.

I had a look at some of the G12s results and UTS have had some good wins, most notably 22-1 and 14-1. They must have had some training before surely; 22-1 was their FIRST game. However Sutherland Futsal G12s had a blinder of a first game 33-0. Yes, you read that right 33-0 for their first game. That's a goal every 1.21 minutes. Impressive I think. Really think those girls are wasting their time playing SL though

Anyone that believes UTS are a new club should have another look. Breakers anyone?
CS has had the same players for years. No real secrets or surprises. I agree they will win the SL club champ. But will they survive in PL ?
As for Phoenix, a lot of the teams have started from scratch and are working hard on improvement from week to week.

I always look forward to and enjoy reading a post from the Mastro, no window dressing there, straight to the point. Speaking of Phoenix, betting agencies in Greece have reported of a massive betting plunge on the Phoenix Women to make the playoffs! Any reasons why we haven't heard of this hear before now?
