I know I'm not the most popular figure on this forum but as I've been involved in futsal for 19 years as a player coach and administrator I think I'm qualified to talk on this subject.. Firstly I understand the decision, one team per age suggests the best players are playing and doesnt devalue the beautiful blue jersey... Back in the old days before the original split there was only ever one team and you had to work to make it.. However, nsw didn't win everything, act were strong as were qld.. So it made sense. But we are no longer in the old days... Nsw is too strong in every category.. Generally Now we are diluting the talent to make other states feel good about themselves.. Although I'll bet my house the western and southern teams aren't made up of players solely in those areas.. I guarantee they will be pseudo second teams.. It has been like it thr last few years will be worse this year.. I also remember when there was city and country teams in old days and my house was classed as country, I grew up in Camden, so in order to play in the blue I registered as living in five dock.. but I bet noone will have to be tht creative. If FNSW FFA FQ Capital football etc want futsal to survive and succeed then all parties, states national Vikings and any other organization running his awesome game must come together and not walk away till a plan is adopted... By the way it's great the men made the world cup, however let's remember that they have only missed one since the inception of world cup... As for noone to play, there's plenty.. Just no one wants to invest any money... How about bringing some nations to Australia and funding their accommodation and play a mini tournament.. Once you do one you have nations to play and ready made accommodation.. That's what's used to happen, we would go to the uk, Canada an Russia and play.. They would come here so trust me there is plenty of women's teams.. FFA just won't do it cause it's not an actual tournament , but we have to start somewhere.. Right?

Always been popular with me fraggle. I will never forget how nice you were to my daughter. You make some valid points. My concern is that the girls have been aiming at something (i.e. state selections) and are having the goal posts moved. I also shudder at what some of the selectors might do with only one team and split age groups. Could end up very nepostical.

What I think about is the kids picked in the lightning squad can often beat thunder. If they only pick one team will it really be the best kids.......

My thoughts as well justlooking. Sometimes the players picked for Thunder are not necessarily the best there is. Sometimes it is a trading places scenario.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

One team per state is the most logical and best way to go. Then we will truely call it a national competition. All we have to do is stop whinging, stop the 'my kid is the best' mentality", have a selection process where the best kids get selected from their state championship competitions. There you have it, a genuine national futsal competition. Genuinely speaking, I consider the team that wins their respective age group, can call themselves state champions and be proud of it. If that consideration is half true, then automatic selection of 3 or 4 of that winning team pleayers plus the rest from the better teams should fill the remaining positions.
I can tell you now nobody out there can convince my boy to TRAIL for Nationals even if his current team win their age group in the up coming NSW State Championships. The process is flawed.

How can it be called a true National Champioships if not all States enter? Even in Outdoor Age Group National Championships NSW is allowed 3 teams, if only to cater for the geographical population differences. Who has convinced your boy not to TRAIL for Nationals? All selection processes are flawed, even for his current team I would imagine !!!

What we have now is not even close to a national championship. All futsal players should play to be selected in a State team, one team, one state, one winner that will be called a Natonal championships, we might even include New Zealand.
My boy said it to himself, he will not trail, coaches and selected players have asked him to trial but he won't, you ask him. Why have NSW futsal championships when any kid that is registered can trial for a spot in a State team. Select 16 players from the State Championships then pick say 8 players plus two goal keepers. Anything better than a state coach ring a player that did not trail so HIS/HER team has a chance of winning nationals.

I agree with Beetson.. Watch the players at state champs and pick from there I think that principle should be applied to all championship selection processes whether they be indoor or outdoor. Sadly it is not always the case.

The funniest thing out all of this ,will be coach selection .If they stick to the rules where a coach who coaches a certain age group can't coach that same age group for nationals. I can think of some coaches all thinking of coaching girls from previous years now Let's see how this pans out and who will still go. GEORGE'S over how football nsw has to change things every year.Just to listen to everyone winge , that's crap I love this stuff ... Hehehehe

It seems that FNSW is not going to advertise for Nationals Coaches this year. With State Titles on 3&4 November, I haven't seen any applications called for yet, and usually the coaches are supposed to talent scout at State Titles.
It's now half way through October, so they are leaving their run a bit late, unless they have already decided coaches?
Does anyone know what the process to appoint coaches will be this time?

This season has started later than most years . As far as I know ,no coach from last year has been notified yet .We'll have to wait for state titles I think and see who applies for what.
