Thought I'd start a new thread as all teams have just about had trial games these past 2 weeks.
Anyone care to share how teams went and predictions.?
I'll start with Botany Bay vs Inner West Magic.... Botany Bay will be very competitive in the younger age groups, not so competitive in seniors.
Dural played Phoenix, i think Dural won all female games, not sure about boys teams.
Anyone else got results?

Both clubs missing a few players in all age groups.

Vipers v Hakoah: Viper won everything except a draw in the Men and wins to Hakoah in 12 & 16 Boys Magic v Boomerangs: Magic won all the boys games, Boomerangs got wins or draws in all the girls games Mountain Majik v Western Wolves: Majik won everything except 14 Boys
All second hand info so might not be 100% accurate.

Just spent last hour ( yes bored at work) looking at results from weekends state titles. What I was surprised most about is how many clubs didn't enter teams. Some clubs were missing 1 or 2 teams but some entered no teams at all. Is it because of the time and effort it takes to complete entry and finalise teams ? I'll be interested to see if the teams that did well will also do well in their season comp. Full squads and bigger courts will make difference

I'll jump on this topic mr grey and have my say, my kids team managed to get a team down to Penrith, I thought it was well run but quiet disappointed in the flow of every game I watched. Having to chases balls in other courts and watching players stop or get confused not knowing which ref blew the whistle, one would think being state championships these issues shouldn't come into play, has there been any mention or recognition of winning teams or stand out players?, just seemed like a lot of hype over nothing, maybe a lot of other clubs have similar thoughts that's why there giving it miss. On the flip side great way to see how players and your team stack up against every other club. Would we go again ? Probably not .

Sometimes it's just a simple explanation of family holidays. If your child plays outdoor and futsal and does state titles (outdoor) the week before that leaves one week left of school holidays for a break. It gets to the stage where families have to opt out of something to ensure they get this time together. I know of a few clubs that didn't have players available because of this or put teams together of two age groups eg: 15 girls played up in 17s and only put 17s in the comp.

I wish it weren't held PRE-season.

Firstly congrats to the teams that competed and of course to the winners.
But personally I hate the State champs. In addition to the reasons already given you have small courts, wrong size goals, variable refereeing, unavailable players, players switching clubs, ridiculous mismatches, too many games in a day, people walking all over the courts, no where to sit and the biggest factor in determining who is going to win is often the draw. To quote someone else "to win the state champs all you need is to be a top 4 PL team and have the bye on Sunday morning". To quote one of the referees I know "I don't do the State Champs. Its like the wild west".
That being said its a lot of fun for the younger kids.

We can't have the kids having fun. This is about the parents....no nice comfy seats ( EC)!

Simply another opportunity for lots of kids to get more touches on the ball in a competitive environment. Who cares about court sizes, whistles, recognition of "stand out player", "hype" ( a parent concept), etc.
