With APIA, Sydney Olympic, Marconi, Rockdale, Sydney United and Wollongong, the NSW NPL aspirants apparently. Whilst I do admire the initiative and understand it can only be driven by clubs, I can't help but be super sceptical that it can work. Would love to be proven wrong of course.

Having just watched a potential B League member, APIA Leichhardt, genuinely struggle to beat Hakoah tonight, as I was leaving, I was wondering how anyone seriously thinks the B League is going to work. A league composed of teams like APIA, whilst competent and full of capable players, isn't going to be able to attract and keep any form of streaming service, let alone get paid lots of money for viewing rights, to help the competition run.

I bet new sponsor, channel 10, cant wait to get a suburban team with a supporter base of a couple of hundred people (at a stretch) replacing a demoted A-League team with a base of 10 ten thousand. Will never happen!

When there is a B League, the teams that are admitted will be much stronger than npl standard as they will attract all the best players in the state.

Professional leagues and clubs are not in the business of “attracting” the best players. i.e. Try outs not happening. Their focus is “contracting” players they believe can assist them achieving desired outcomes.

Its not about how good the teams in B League are its the size of their supporter base and their marketability that matters to those with the money that keeps the A-League going.
