Had a bit of spare time and went back and looked back at how many of 2014 12s are still at their club for 18s this year. It is an inexact science as some boys might be playing 20s, or were sucked into the Sydney FC/WSW vortex (plus i might have made errors), or clubs weren't in PL1/2 that year, but here goes:
Wollongong: 4 Rockdale: 1 APIA: 0 (I know this one oh so well) Manly: 3 Mt Druitt: 4 Sutherland: 2 Blacktown City: 2 Marconi: 2 Sydney United: 4 Olypmpic: 2 Spirit: 2 Central Coast: 3 Northern Tigers: 4 Blacktown Spartans: 0 (one boy is playing RAE in 16s there) Hills: 4 Mounties Wanderers: 1 Bonnyrigg: 0 St George: 0 Macarthur Rams: 0 Canterbury-Bankstown: 0
So bottom line, getting attached to your club in 12s was probably a waste of time (it was for us!) and may still well be.

Leading the way.....once again!😜 Relatively speaking.... Those stats don't seasonally adjust for the geographical isolation of NT also.

What about more favourable adjustments for: - players moving to rugby union and AFL because “it’s kinda nice being the most agile kid on the field” - “Can’t play YPL and school football on the same day and there’s more prestige playing in the schools 1st eleven” - “Johnny, or Jonathon as they say over here needs to focus on the HSC” - “football commitments are getting in the way of our family’s annual European holiday” - “the coach didn’t speak nicely to Jonathan and he’s distressed so I’m taking him out”

Interesting stats and well-done researching this. Looking back, to my son's old club, Sydney Uni U12’s team, 2015 NSW Champions, out of 16 players (1 girl ) from that team, only 4 stop playing soccer altogether. The majority continued to play in both NPL1 and NPL2, some went overseas but IMHO quite remarkable.

Manly started with 8 still at the club in 2019, plus 2 at Sydney FC.

Manly started with 8 still at the club in 2019, plus 2 at Sydney FC. Thanks for picking it up Franko, I went back to have a look, quite a glaring error on my part. I still made it 6 playing 18s, plus one in 16s, but irrespective still a super high retention ratio compared to everyone else (and of course OMG2, allowing for the pilfering by A League teams). It probably helps in some respects not having any other PL 1 clubs anywhere close, but nonetheless, having that kind of continuity is impressive.

Nice excuse EC, what about us having non-football parents, etc, etc....refer old post for detail.

The observations are still valid...
