Interesting piece by Mike Cockerill in today's SMH: www.smh.com.au/sport/soccer/national-youth-league-needs-to-grow-to-keep-aleague-alive-20151106-gks1uj.html?skin=text-onlyAn eight game season isn't really consistent with the broader development philosophy I would have thought. I understand that the A League clubs are really not keen on the idea of supporting it for financial reasons, which is probably why all are now involved at NPL level from 2016 onwards, but there does seem to be a gap. I'm not sure about the idea of a second national tier of other clubs. I do think in theory it's a great idea to introduce promotion and relegation, but I think there must be considerable doubt that those clubs will be able to run full-time set ups. I suspect they can probably manage it for a few years, but it's hard to see any but a tiny number actually able to sustain it, let alone be competitive at A League level.

Any small chance that some clubs had of future promotion may have been destroyed by more recent events...(Biting the hand that feeds them??)

I have been saying this for a long time there must be more clubs to join, bring in the academies as well into the fold, why,,,,why not,,,,its for the development of the players isn't it//// players are going all over the place looking for more football, keep them where they are happy or we stand the chance of losing very good players that need more time to develop. Play under lights play in the day play on weekends just give them more games as the games are the teachers to many drills for very little effect.

Open up the field to more clubs and academies thereby providing more opportunities for the players. It seems the powers that be are keen to maintain their grip over the League, putting politics and favouritism before player and game development.

Have a look at the team numbers in SAP and youth league...its increased and will continue to do so. Future for Academies is limited to providing extra sessions for those already in youth league.

Absolutely not acceptable the players are getting developed individually at academies not in the youth leauge, no wonder many are not in the youth leauge.
