What do you expect when it's amateurs against professionals? We've done well to get this far given the lack of support from FFA.

Talking up Aust prospects without a balanced outlook doesnt help though- we all like to believe what we read about Aust, no matter what it is. FFA need to be right there on the bench for Aust as well as developing the grass-roots for the sport to survive in Aust. Will that ever happen??? Nike, No disrespect but for Aust to properly compete at international futsal, we need to have more than 1 or 2 players who are "very talented". Italy simply played as a team, supporting the ball carrier when in possession & pressing Aust into losing possession. After 4 goals had been conceded, when you watch the Aust keeper release the ball to a field player who is not pressured & that field player loses the ball over the sideline due to lack of control, there is something wrong with some of the Aust players, or the Aust game at large.

Julio, I don't think there is anything 'wrong' with the Aust players. It is just their ability to play under the pressure of the game at this level. In many sports, top players make the wrong choices when the pressure is on; just lok at golf and tennis. Even the best of golfers get bogies when under pressure !!

i believe knighty left tobias on too long and greg. they made many mistakes at the level they have played its not acceptable in saying that they are our best, just not on the night. think was dannys game and i didnt think he got enough time and we did miss fogarty. just my thought.

watching the game this afternoon (had to record it) and I honestly thought the Aussie team was alright. The difference was the Italians are training 4/5 times a week and playing at least once a week at a level that is equal to the world cup and their speed of thought and movement was just too quick for the Aussies to handle. Although it's a broken record they are playing a quality of futsal far higher and far more regularly than any of the aussie boys and it showed. The other thing that I thought was he left Giovenali and Seeto on for too long as well and while they were on the team wasn't as fluid in attack because they were a little too static in their off the ball movement (not because they aren't good, but more because they were cautious and were playing a little more conservative).
Was really great to be able to see a game on the big screen though and they lengths the Italians went to to keep the ball was awesome (while still playing safe and not too risky) and the change of pace they could implement in attack with just one or two passes was amazing to watch as well.

MT there's the problem with Australian Football right there... comparing it to Golf or Tennis. In some cases Rugby League or AFL.
Golf or Tennis require enormous amounts of individual psychological skills as well as being a great athlete. Australia produces great golfers and over the years, but we don't produce great football teams. We need to encourage higher levels of skill and not punish mistakes at a young age. We still play this robotic (dont make mistakes) football, based on physical attributes.
Italy worked as a team yes, but they have the skill set to tear us apart. Watch how many times Italy make our defenders commit and the Aussie player ends up on floor.
I agree that we are up against Professionals though & that does amount to the gulf in class.

Yes the result was disappointing. But few comments.
1. Italy is ranked 3 in the World and is the players are all professional training 4-5 times a week. Australia is ranked 28 and the players are all amateurs and train normally once a week. 2. Italy had 27 clean shots on goal vs 21 by Australia. On this metric the game is fairly even. The difference was the clinical finishing by the Italians......something you would expect from full time professionals. 3. Italy's first half goals all came after 14 minutes. But this is stop clock minutes and was actually in the 28th running minute or half time break during a normal premier league game! Australia needs to learn to keep up the intensity right through each 20 minute stop clock half. 4. Watching the game live and editing the videos I can say Australia were pretty good, but Italy was brilliant. Italy had so few mistakes and as mentioned earlier great finishing. The pace of the game is much quicker live than on TV. 5. Earlier in the week we held Iran (ranked 6th in the world) to a 0-0 draw in a trial match. The difference was this was 20 minute half and not stop clock. Statistically I think we actually played better against Italy last Friday.
Yes Australia needs to improve, but I don't think the result was as poor as the score line indicated.

I think the Italy - Australia game was a true reflection of where Australia is at in the world game. The were so many little things that the Italians did so much better and throughout the entire game. Their rotations were kept simple but were done extremely well. Dribbling, 1st touch, passing, finishing were better in every aspect. The support play was even better still. Change of speed in attack was sublime. Defensive reads were really what brought Australia unstuck on numerous occassions.
I feel Australia were too consevative in attack and sometimes did not play the right rotations. The Italians worked out thier target player after the secound shot on goal and then did not adjust to the situation for a long time after that .
Giovenali and Seeto were on way too long and got caught out in defence on a number of occassions mainly because their legs were gone. Some of the wayward passing was because of the same reasons (there were some shockers there. lol)
Italy played really well and Australia should look to improve and be more confident and sharper in attack/defence against Mexico

Better game for Australia last night. Slower game but good discipline shown towards the game plan which showed in the end. Well done!

Yes, very well done & for Aust to be down 1-0 late 1st half. Mexico used to be dubbed Brazil #2 with the no.of Brazillians who migrate across the border.
