As a referee I hate drop ball restarts.
They are a stupid & at times dangerous move with players especially the lesser experienced hurting themselves as they clash for the ball.
I have been hit in the face & the groin with the ball on a couple of occasions & it bloody well hurts.
Personally I would like the laws to be changed, if a player goes down seriously injured in the opinion of the referee the referee can stop play regardless of where the ball is & once the injured player has been attended to can restart by giving the ball to any team mate of the injured player who then kicks it to the opposition goalkeeper with no interference by any other player, A goal cannot be scored directly from said kick.

commanderwhite, Wouldn't be easier (and simpler) to just give the ball to the opposition goal keeper to start with

How about, we leave the rules alone.

No problems. We leave the rules alone but change the laws. Haha

What happens if a team is 1-0, the team losing is attacking, one of the defenders goes down injured, referee stops the game. The ball then has to go all the way back to the keeper?
What you are suggesting won't work!

Injured player - the referee stops the watch,
No time wasted.

scarecrow, the ball can be kicked for a throwin as well, it doesn't have to go back to the keeper.

Injured player - the referee stops the watch, No time wasted. And how many local comps have stoppage for injuries. GYL and WSL res grade don't even have stoppage time?
