hey I'm not a big Han Berger fan but I have to agree with him that by keeping a player in his "own" environment most times helps his development - he used Tommy Oar as his example and I guess what he was saying was "CREAM ALWAYS RISES TO THE TOP" - taking your boy overseas is a great experience but will it ultimately make him a better player with some advantage over local boys? Possibly but Tommy Oar is the FFA's model for boys staying here and developing. As we are all aware it is a costly exercise and there are NO guarantees that success will follow - may be worth getting Academy Coaching here with IQ Football together with Club Football to keep up your time on the ball and give it your all here in Aust. before heading o/s Interested to hear points of view on this I think its horses for courses. I think children or players that can cope with a change of environment are much more of a chance of going further in any sport. Tommy Oar, Geez he won Lotto simple as that, But then again the FFA needed a new pin up boy to show that u could come from nowehere and fall into a socceroos jersey, I wonder which marketing manager sent that memo down the line. Memo Read - Lets get a player from no where and take him to the top in 14 weeks and show every kid they dont have to go overseas until the are 18odd. As pops says the maths doesnt add up. And also as the A league are looking to sell players those with EU passport are much more sort after. So they can be sold. Its worth noting that the new home grown rule being implemented into UK means less spots for foreigners even if they have the EU passport. I also believe that the best thing you could do is take a trip look around and then decide cause the real cost of chasing a dream in Aust is around 10k a year anyway and loss of school time. Make the decisions early and go football or school. Because the chances of any of our kids being tommy oar is a million to one cheers

From The World Game Website article on Nikita Rukavytsya...
Rukavytsya believes the experience of having played top flight football in Europe, firstly for FC Twente in the Netherlands, and more recently with KSV Roeselare in Belgium, has prepared him for football's ultimate test."
"Since I went to Europe, I think I've developed in every aspect of my game. It's a different mentality, it's much harder and you are on your own, so you have to train every day and obviously improve on your weaknesses. I think I've improved a lot," he said.
"The move to Europe and to play at Twente, it's a great club. I wasn't playing there much, but still training with all those players, it makes you improve. I think it gave me a good chance."
To make the world cup squad.
So should you stay in Australia...Judge for yourself.

New Zealand's effort makes a mockery of some of the pundits on here who bag Australia/A League etc and also our pimbercile Coach who says A League is mickey mouse - well ask the Italians what they think!!!

One swallow doesn't make a summer ( or two even).
Did they run their backsides off? Did they excede all expectations? Was I supporting them and cheering every kick no matter where it went? YES
Have they outplayed anyone? Did they play good football? Have they won a game? Did you see any quality technical football? Do you think many clubs will be knocking their doors down trying to sign most of the team?
Honestly... No!
If you think that a couple of draws where the team was outplayed for 97.9% of games is justification of the A-League being to notch, than good luck to you.
