Sorry fiik, just couldn't resist. Hey Reaps we are coming to get you. By my reckoning Australia +13 places, England -1 place. Look out, if we improve by another 13 places then we will be infront of England.Lol.

Once your current crop of stars begin to wane, you have nothing coming through to take their place and don't point to those playing in the A League or i might shuffle off this mortal coil a bit earlier............from laughter! ![](http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Laughing/hahaha-024.gif)

Reaps, there is no way I would suggest that the players in the A-League will fill the void. This has even been noted by Han Berger that the state of play in the A-League is ordinary. Maybe our next good crop of players won't happen for a few years, who knows!

Mrsquiggle , there are alot of talented kids about , of which most are currently overseas , playing in some of the worlds top clubs. But due to the way the FFA make their transfers to these clubs such a hard task , they and their families resent them so much , they choose to play for their parents birth country .Until the people at the top realise that to get the best out of yourself , you have to live and breath this game at the highest level , playing against kids the same age week in week out ,of equal standard , you will not see them come back to play. Our elite players should be helped to achieve their best , and if the FFA was helpful instead of a hinderence , these boys would show them with their commitment to the australian teams. rumourmill I cant agree with you entirely. There are very good boys here in Oz still and who WANT to play for their Country. If you look at the boys who are Australian but who play for their parents birthplace, the majority were not good enough to make it in the Oz team.

Also another good example of kids staying here is Brett Emerton. He tried to go overseas early on - didn't "make" it so came back to Oz, honed his skills and then left these shores for overseas success. Are you saying he suffered by staying a few years longer in OZ? I dont think so. And he didn't have the professionalism of today's A League (lets face it - it is better than the old NSL which he came through), yet he was able to go overseas and have a go.

In fact apart from Kewell and a very few others in the present Socceroos squad, the majority all played in Australia for a number of years before trekking off and trialling overseas, incl. Grella and Bresciano, Grella in fact being an AIS Graduate (as was Mark Viduka), so going overseas is a personal choice but it isn't the be all it is made out to be. A Great Player will be a great player no matter what - look at Nick Carle. He was a great player and played in Australia for many years before embarking on a European football odyssey. I know that Jade North was offered a spot overseas straight after the Olympics in 2004, but chose to stay on in Oz to hone his skills and then make the move overseas.

winger i agree there are alot of talented kids still here , but i also know of a few that have offers and would leave at the drop of a hat , but are being held back due to red tape .
I think you would have to agree that Kewell , Cahill and Neill are our most influencial players all left by 17 and you can not compare Jade north in the same sentence , as they are miles apart. As for Nicky Carle , i think he is one our most creative players , he was a standout in the Aleague and one i used to love to watch . But as you know has not reached the same heights.
Will be interesting to look back in 10 years and see where the boys in juniours age group ended up , because their were alot of good players , and they have taken alot of different pathways
cheers

Nick Carle went to France as a teenager was playing 1st team with Troyes, then there was a change of manager who didnt like him so he returned to Aus, he was playing 1st team at olympic at15-16, his development has nothing to do with Australia, but his father who trained in traditional chilean fashion.
Brett Emerton was actually preferred to Harry K, but unfortunately for him could not qualify as had no uk passport so they took HK instead.
As for Jade North, he had no choice other than to stay in Aus until he played enuf AUST 1st team games due to no passport also.

Mark Viduka is poised to make a comeback for the Socceroos to play in next year's World Cup, according to reports on Friday quoting his manager.
Manager Steve Kutner said he had spoken to Viduka while on holidays on Wednesday and he was totally dedicated to getting back to play for the Socceroos, according to an SBS report.
Is he really the missing LINK that everyone says we need ?
