Mail coming into the Death Star indicates the awards given to the various tiers of Futsal over a season has now become a complete joke or for a better word "rort".
It seems some award winners are not judged by their efforts and performances on the court rather how popular they are off the court.
Some award winners must be shaking their heads in disbelief or total embarrassment, as to how they could possibly achieve such.
Perhaps some better informed than me can elaborate on how votes are accumulated.
I'm all ears!!!

TDL this was topic of conversation at the Futsal finals on the weekend. It is simply a popularity contest. I dont like him or I dont like her or we dont like that club.....Its becoming a farce.

Would I be correct to say jealousy of the success of some clubs and individuals would weigh heavily on how some people vote?

My understanding was that clubs nominated a player, and then during first week of finals all clubs voted a 3- 2- 1, although I could be outdated now.
I've seen u14s win gk of the year for a 16s age group by sitting on the bench most of the season, and even people win gk of the year without playing half a season.

I'd be no good giving points the yummy mummy's son or daughter would figure heavily in my voting.
I guess this is exactly why it is a farce.

The nominations go out prior to the GFa though. I think it was just before round 12. But 3-2-1 is the correct process. Your point, is exactly why I call it a farce. This season my club who Club Championship by 35 odd points, had 8 teams make the semis, got 4 Minor Premiers, 3 seconds and 7 teams in the GF but won 1 award out of a possible 19. Thats ridiculous in itself. The funnier thing is, when you speak to other clubs they say - I gave 3 points to this person, 6 clubs all gave 3 points to this person then he doesnt win the award. these idiots who vote are taking away awards from players and young kids who deserve them for their own petty little grievances..... The coach of the year award is an even bigger joke....

So if my information is correct and I have no reason to doubt it then how does a keeper who conceded 40 goals and their team finished 6th get the the gong ahead of a keeper who only conceded 10 and their team finished 1st as well as being unbeaten.
Think I need a drink after hearing about this one...

I just haven't been around much lately.

1 was 1 too many. lol Agree it is a flawed system. In the old days, didn't the refs give 3-2-1? Then this was pooh poohed as refs may have been seen as showing favouritism. I agree 100% that current system is deeply flawed. If a club doesn't like your club/player, then no votes, irrespective of how good they are but what is the solution? I am sure that if a viable and sustainable system were presented to FNSW they would look closely at it.

You are a funny one fiik.
FNSW would probably look closely at it as it burnt.

My suggestion is something added to SportingPulse with boxes next to names and clubs vote when putting results in. At least if a player or Gk has a great game then it's fresh in the opposition club mind and they vote for them. ( only viewable by FNSW, clubs can't see who gets the votes)
Like someone earlier posted, a gk or player plays 5 games and gets award over a someone that has played all season and had a great season.
Also current system doesn't work with clubs nominating 1 player. When there is a few players that deserve the award, also clubs look at stats as who we thought had a fantastic season but because only scored 4 goals didn't get looked at. This particular player after every game was congratulated on a great game every week but looking at stats looks like an average player so doesn't get votes cause it's not fresh in minds when time to vote.
Well that's my opinion anyways 👊🏻

Good opinion berry, however not sure if it takes out the "favoritism" selection altogether. It would mitigate it but if a player is disliked for whatever reason, they still wont get votes. The major flaw in the system is that it is usually only one or 2 people who do the voting at a club and some (I stress not all) will not vote for that person even if they are twice as good as anyone else on the field. I have given this some thought and I will be buggered if I can come up with a viable solution. Human nature will always out.

Harsh but fair for most. Awards are only for parents to talk up when picking their child up from school.

Isn't being a member of a successful team a good enough reward.
Remember it's a team sport and without all members if a team contributing there is no team, success or bragging.
If you are after an individual award try golf, tennis etc.
If parents are desperate for a award try the local trophy shop or council clean ups when people throw them out.

Maybe time for the Dark Lord to hand out his own awards.
