Repetitive thumping injuries ( technical term) take time to wear the body down ....wait for the limp to appear when he's 30.

Repetitive thumping injuries ( technical term) take time to wear the body down ....wait for the limp to appear when he's 30. You have a complete long term study on this? Love to see the data? Some interesting stats: The average age of Japan team at 2012 Futsal World cup was 32. At the 2014 Football World Cup it was 27. The average age of Brazil team at 2012 Futsal World Cup was 31. At the 2014 Football World Cup it was 28. And these Futsal players are full time professionals playing and training all year round on those ugly hard floors.

And if I find 5 people that have smoked all their life and haven't yet contracted cancer does that mean smoking doesn't cause cancer ?? Fair enough. Lets take all the players from all the teams at the last 2 Futsal and Football World Cups. If Futsal did as you stated "wear the body down" you would expect to see the average age of players at the Futsal World Cup significantly lower compared to the Football World Cup. What do the stats actually show? Average age at 2012 Futsal World Cup was 28 and 2014 Football World Cup 27. In fact the last 5 Futsal World Cups have average age of around 27-28, whereas the Football World Cup has been solid at 27 for the same period. Bottom line there is absolutely no correlation with playing futsal on hard floors and long term injury vs outdoor.....zip...zero...nil..nothing...zilch..naught.

Not sure that passes the evidence test either....If the average age of smokers is 52 does that mean it's good for you??

I have been following this thread with great interest. I think we should really look at the positives that Futsal can bring to all communities. Think about the families, who can't participate in "traditional" soccer through the winter months due to logistics - Futsal provides an opportunity for these children to enjoy the sport, learn team spirit and be active. Futsal in our local community can be in one location, one night a week and the same time. Surely, 20 mins a game of Futsal is better than nothing. Just being an advocate to keep children active!

Football in any form is fantastic!! IMO the 5/6 a side form on an artificial pitch is better and with more and more of these pitches being built I think it will take over from the indoor game.

Ironic you make this claim the same day the largest ever crowd turned up for a futsal match (55,000). So many people they had to hold it in an outdoor stadium!

Well there you go...they would've topped 60k if they had an artificial grass surface I meant in Australia....better weather!

Sorry I'm late in this discussion... but I think the article quoted on page 1 from BJSM should be read in entirety. 'Similar' injury rates are not the same as 'identical' injury rates. The article also explains how they differ.
It's important that you don't just read abstracts.
PS I think both games are good. Good 11 v11 footballers often make good futsal players too. Good futsal players can make good outdoor players.
I also think based on scientific principles that kids shouldn't play 11v 11 until they are 15-16.

If Futsal is so important than why not have a longer leauge it's anout 13 rounds or so with many clubs training only 1hour a week- it's unexceptable
Fix This.

Move Futsal outside to grass/artificial surface. Indoor games are for when ts raining outside....and with artificial grass it doesn't matter. Better for climate, better for the body and better for tfr of skills to 11v11.
Football on a hard shiny surface, played indoors and with a ball that thuds rather than bounces......mmm that's a weird game!!

tarzan to have it played outside would mean clubs would have to have cover over the fields/courts due to the heat. Some centres are already hot enough without putting the kids out in the sun as well.

I'd like to think that Aussie kids haven't become so soft that they cant spend 30 mins pw in the sun??? Since I had my son spend 10x that period training in the sun in the last couple of days I'm starting to feel guilty (not!)
