Ever had your child complain about how hot their feet get on the artificial turf pitches. Ever seen a player spit on the surface or spray their water bottle after drinking from it.
If yes, then you may find this article an interesting read.

I have seen a girl contract golden staph from a burn on artificial turf. Apparently it happens more than people realise.

It's 7 degrees hotter on the artificial surface.
There is a class action happening in America against this type of surface. They claim that is has caused cancer in some children due to the rubber pellets getting into their skin. Give me grass and mud any day.

You'd be lucky to be allowed to play on muddy fields in Australia !! Are there not also court cases in America due to 'damage' from heading the ball too much?

The artificial surfaces are very comparable with the artificial coaches. Add the artificial club officials and we have a whole new world of artificial football.
If you haven't played football on a wet and muddy field where you come off looking like a Yeti, you haven't lived. Which one of us older blokes haven't run 30 or 40 metres to slide tackle some in the mud just for the fun of it ?

Oh come on directfk. You know that being the GK in the mud is the best position around.

Fullbacks have more fun in the mud, hands down.

I've seen kids games cancelled cause someone spat on the field let alone rain actually touching it.

And if a pitch is cut up by overuse (wet pitches are far more vulnerable) everybody bitches about poor playing surfaces.
Artificial surfaces mitigate this, can be used far more heavily and in all conditions, but theyre hot and potentially dangerous.
Cant have it both ways, unless you develop your own pitch and let your kids play on it whenever they want.

Users rarely appreciate the thousands of dollars councils put into fields each year. To throw that money down the drain off the back of one wet weekend would be crazy.

Yes, the councils make a huge effort for our sport.
Our local council has grounds markers who require 3 attempts to mark a 50 x 100 football field. The extra sidelines and penalty area markings make it real interesting for the players and referees. I reckon the wacky tobaky has something to do with it, not that I would know.
