Mr Gray Should Futsal have in the development squads 10a's, 10b's, 10c's just like outdoor? Waiting isn't a,b,c a type of grading? Mr Gray. sounds part emu....

Development squads are just a smoke screen to generate more $$$ and nothing more. More $$$ gives a club better buying power in the senior players marketplace... It's as obvious as pigeon poo on the washing Totally incorrect from our end TDL. We have our best coaches coaching the young teams. The thinking for us behind the Mini Magician teams is to eventually have 2 teams per age group starting at 8 through to 10s and by the time they turn 11 we only pick from those 20 kids... for our 11s and 12s teams. There will always be a "superstar" that comes to trial but case in point for our 12s this year that this weekends closed trial for the 12 boys, out of the 14 players weve asked to attend 10 of them are from last seasons 11s team.... There isnt that much profit to make to be honest. 9 players @ $600.00 each = $5400.00 After purchase of gear, equipment expenses, referee fees, registration, court hire for training and games, coaching costs if any... trust me it isnt very lucrative at all. Furthermore to my knowledge there are no players getting paid to play in the Seniors. Completely agree with Iswam here. Absolutely no financial benefit for most clubs running academy/development squads. It's great just to see those age groups getting involved in futsal, which is why we run these programs.

1. I never mentioned grading, I mentioned futsal clubs trialling academy sides for 8-10 kids and obviously selecting best players? 2. You want to compare grading 50,000 junior park soccer kids where every kid wants to play soccer, I bet if you asked those 50,000 kids about futsal, I bet not many know what futsal is let alone played it. 3. How about going out to these games or getting park soccer coaches interested, charge minimum fees, if did this every season, the numbers will double every year. 4. Having these so called programs with qualified coaches blah blah with high fees is not in the interest of kids. being selected at academy trials is just a bragging right for parents who think their kid is a superstar and was picked out of X amount of kids. " my johnny was picked to be a mini magician out of 200 kids" but fail to say it's going to cost me $600 but they are thinking for that price it must be good, but in fact $450 is used to fund the senior players. 5. If any club is struggling to field a full academy side, Trials are not the way to go!!

If any club is struggling to field a full academy side, Trials are not the way to go!! Mr Gray, You make some valid points - A few I agree with, some I dont but ill put a response to most of your comments. 1. Our club is a representative club no different to the APIAs, Marconis, Blacktown etc all of whom trial their respective clubs in the same manner we do. In all honesty to me these teams mean no absolutely nothing to me in regards to whether they are good or win or not. Sure we all want the best players but for me its not about that. Its about getting younger kids into our club so we can train them and make them better players and hopefully build a pathway for them for our own club. ideally within 3 years the u/8s will be the only team trialling every year as we pick from the players within the Mini Magician program. We want to start a grassroots program in the near future where players who either dont get selected or are just local players want to learn the game. Unfortunately we are not at a point to do that right now. MM Im pretty sure do this. 3. Is it really the Futsal clubs jobs to recruit park soccer players and coaches? FNSW have full time employed development officers to do exactly that. Id suggest that FNSW run their own grassroots Futsal academies in the offseasn. They would make a fortune. 4. High fees are not in the interest of anyone. My club if it has $500.00 in the bank at the end of any PL season is a miracle. We dont make money. You clearly have no idea if you think that $450.00 of anything pays for the seniors. Clearly that suggests that $150.00 is all it costs to run a junior player at PL. I spend more on that per kid for their gear let along anything else. All my senior players play. They pay to play PL and they pay to play F league. This continued notion that you have that the Juniors pay for the Seniors in Futsal is not right!

Mr Gray, the point has been made already...lets be very clear no club makes money out of futsal. The cost of court hire is about double the cost of a council owned full size field where you can have 4 teams training at once. In other words the cost of hire is 8x greater....impossible to generate dollars and keep player fees down under that model.

If any club is struggling to field a full academy side, Trials are not the way to go!! All I know is I saw a dramatic improvement in the academy players during the year. It brought a smile to my face seeing 9 and 10 year olds telling other team mates to - stop dribbling - stop taking long shots etc. In short the program was working and creating better futsal players. We need them to learn the basic at an early age. The number of talented kids who at 16 and 17 still don't know the basics is staggering. As others have said the costs of uniforms, polos, bags etc plus training is very high. At MM the development kids get the same kits as the rest of the club, but better coaching! Many of the coaches having AFC Level 1 qualifications. The alternative is they play social futsal where they have "forwards" and "backs" and all they do is try and beat players one on one.

Mr Gray, 50,000 park footballers with coaches already in place, sounds like you can start your own club. Most parents are more concerned with the standard of coaches than the club itself, same for both outdoor and futsal so personally I would rather pay for someone who has spent the time to improve him or herself rather than a parent with best intentions but in most cases will not teach anything football related. That is my personal choice, if yours is to stay in park football there is no issue, this is not a class war but unfortunately you cannot have it both ways as most kids with better coaching will rise above. Sincerely hope that your child enjoys whatever they choose as that is more often than not forgotten.

iswam, I agree with what you have said.
Watching a few PL1 "academy" games last year, there were some lob-sided scores because some clubs combined their teams, whilst others didn't. Are all clubs in PL1 now going to have separate teams for each age - U8/9/10/11, or is this just specific to your club?

GO EAGLES!! bump Also wanted to add that none of our female teams have been pre selected ( ignore any rumours you hear of us selecting only family and friends)... Every one of the girls that turn up to trial will be looked at. Also Want to squash the other rumour, just like last season, the girls will be training every week until season finishes, so if you want to play for the longest running club with a strong solid foundation then come along to our trials to be an Eagle!
