How do you get selected to trial, for this age group when there isn't an U13s comp in Futsal PL.

Instead of a heap of different threads, here is just one thread to discuss the boys trials.

A waste of time attending the 13's, I'm a very harsh critic of my young bloke, but I'll stand r**ted if he wasn't in the best 8 or 9 players who attended but he won't get a look in. No one can tell me these teams aren't picked prior.

Mate to be honest I've no idea who the coach of this team is. He doesn't play for a sydney futsal club as we live on the central coast and after travelling down to sydney 4 times a week during the winter season it's a nice change to relax over summer playing with his mariners friends. He has though been runner up at the 2011 and 2012 state titles both times to the sydney city eagles. In my humble but honest opinion he did trial better than two of his PL1 team mates but like I said won't even get a look in. Feedback appreciated.

Cant speak for the individual coach and/or selectors but what I have seen over many years is that the trials are just one input into the selection process. Some would argue it should be the ONLY input but IMO I think it is fair to factor in existing knowledge of players and even the clubs they play for. My son was never selected for a state team until he started playing for a Premier League club. Some would say that shouldn't be a factor, but the reality is playing for a premier league club meant he was playing with and against the top players each week, as well as being coached by state/national players. I think its reasonable for a selector to factor that in. In the young age groups you typically have a large number of kids trying out and I don't envy any selector trying to make heads or tails of it in a short period.

I thought the selections/trials were fair. I agree playing history in the current season and last season is usually looked at. Some kids trial well but don't play well under the highest of pressure. Not sure whether spud will make it or not but am not concerned this year. I have come to accept the trial and selection process is what it is and whether they choose him or not is no indicator of how he is as a player - it's their personal taste. And sometimes the coaches screw up their choices so badly, they stuff up big time and the kids they did choose are the ones whose parents start making excuses. Don't envy some of you at all.

U12s talent on display yesterday was fantastic you could pick 3 teams from the kids that turned up. Very impressive anyone else watch the 12s
