A sticky thread for some tips about health and fitness. Especially for parents. Also for if you need help finding a good sports physio.

Pre-game meals for 10 to 14 year olds Healthy cereal and milk. Milo whole grain cereal is a compromise if they won't eat muesli. Cut banana on top. Take a box of Milo oaty bars in the car and have one or two bars 30 minutes before warming up. A couple of mouthfuls of sports drink tops up the carbs too on warm days. Rinse with plain water.
Post game no more than 30 to 60 minutes after Another bar or banana bread or a banana is good. It will help them replace carbs and avoid eating crap before the next meal.
We did this for years and it works. No burn out during the game or eating junk after.

A chiropractor check up at least every 6 months is a good idea , a lot of kids have a tilted pelvis as most will favor one foot over the other ,this will give the impression that one leg is longer than the other where in fact it is the pelvis that is tilted . Early diagnosis will prevent a whole heap of other injuries down the track.

Funny! Wit is a good sign of intelligence. Quip wit without doing your homework is a little risky.
I need to change that signature eh?

Some one told me I was a wit. My wife told them they were half right.

CASE 1 Junior was diagnosed by a physio for squiff back, which would lead to injuries to lower torso & legs in years ahead unless rectified. CASE 2 Promising young footballer went to UK for trials, kept sustaining injuries during training & games. After several years of perseverence, returned to Australia. Went to local medico who asked footballer to take off his shoes & socks. There was the cause of his continuing injuries which were not picked up, which kept him out of selections in UK: he had flat feet.

Any tips for some basic exercises that can be done at home / in the backyard? Exercises - Core, isometric leg strength, ankle stability and push ups. You can look them up or talk to a good physio for detailed instructions. basically, crunches, lunges, squats, bosu ball balancing and push ups. outside - pass and receive against a brick wall using both feet. One touch! Volleying into a rebounder, laces and inside of both feet, Juggle til you can juggle no more! alternate feet. Lots of small touches, left-right, inside and outside of each foot. Link - drillshope this helps
